Shrove Tuesday is as most will know the last day before the beginning of Lent. This year it is particularly early and as such the 9th annual Inter Livery Pancake race was held in near freezing conditions.

Thirty of the City's one hundred and eight Livery companies compete in four categories: The Masters, The Liverymen, Ladies and Novelty. Be warned it is a hotly contested event.

This year's line-up had pancakes provided by the Cooks, the pans from the Ironmongers, the time keeping from the Watchmakers and the starting gun by the Gunsmiths.  Kirstin is a member of the Worshipful           Company of Information Technologists and was entered into the Women's race. The 50 yard dash with two "tossings" (between the cones) requires speed, diligence and cunning, in a close run qualifier Kirstin finished a full length ahead of the Furniture Makers and the Fruiters, and in the final it was a neck and neck against the Farmers. However after penalties were added to the Farmers Kirstin's tight win was confirmed.

The prize awarded by the Poutlers Master was a first win for the WCIT and the copper Pan Trophy duly engraved by the Worshipful Company of Master Engravers will be placed in the WCIT Hall Treasures cabinet for the year, before the  defence of the title takes place in 2014.
